Jonathan Haidt is a distinguished social psychologist and writer who analyzes the causes of the alarming increase in mental disorders among the youngest generations. In his latest publication, he points to the crucial role that ubiquitous smartphones and social media play in this process – particularly their dominant influence during childhood and adolescence. His acclaimed book titled "The Anxious Generation" became a bestseller because it addresses the extremely important and current topic of growing mental health problems among children, adolescents, and young adults. It is certainly worth reading.

Today, on the Sunday of the Word of God, we wish to reflect on a sentence from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew: "As he walked by, he said to them: Follow me!"

Why do we read good books and open the Sacred Scriptures? Precisely so that Jesus may enter our lives and speak to us. However, this encounter requires our consent. Surely many Christian families know the Bible, but do all families realize what a great treasure they have at home? Can everyone make use of this wealth that is at hand? Or is it still a treasure hidden in a corner, which is usually not used?

How does this look in our families? How often do we read Sacred Scripture – both privately and communally? Of course, to be able to reach for the reading of the Word of God, one must for a moment leave one's nets, which may be: work, duties, hobbies, mass media, that is, social networks.

To read the Bible is to look at one's life from a different perspective – from God's perspective. He himself looks at our labor, struggles, failures, and wants to invite us to the adventure of a spiritual journey. By human strength or ideas alone, we will not be able to repair our entire life with all its dimensions and problems. Only when we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us through the successive chapters of Sacred Scripture will we better understand the meaning and significance of each of our work and tasks that we undertake.

It is best, therefore, to do so immediately – that is, right after returning home – to find the Bible and place it again at the center of one's Christian life. If not for a whole lifetime, then at least this year.

Jesus Christ also desires to teach you, dear Sister and dear Brother – not only when you come to church, but truly every day when you open Sacred Scripture. His Good News can shed better light on the path by which you walk to the Kingdom of Heaven. His Divine words have the power to heal you from all ailments of soul and body. By the grace of the Holy Spirit, you too can overcome your weaknesses, solve life's problems, and regain energy for a beautiful life.

With my friends, for many years now, we have been reflecting on and sharing the Word of God on the internet – on a blog and in a podcast titled "Reflections on the Bible." I encourage you to read and share the Word of God. Perhaps you too need the Word inspired by prayer and the Holy Spirit? Make use of the version of Sacred Scripture that you have – whether paper, electronic, or audio. Hear the words of Jesus Christ, who says to you today: Follow me and my Word! Amen.
